چکیده
Authors’ address: Howard S. Gruber and Marshall H. Klaus, Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Cleveland, O. (USA) Thirty-six infants (mean birthweight 1709 g) with severe HMD were treated with intermittent mask and bag ventilation as an alternative to the mechanical respirator. Previous therapy with oxygen, NaHCO7⁄8, glucose infusion and thermoregulation was judged to have failed when the infant attained a score > 3 on the following table.

مروری بر سندرم دیسترس تنفسی نوزادان (RDS)
Respiratory Distress Syndrome, which was previously known as Hyaline Membrane Disease (HMD), is among the most common cause of immature neonatal death. The present study has discussed the disease history, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, laboratory findings, radiologic findings, and differential diagnosis. Meanwhile, recent progresses achieved in the field of treatment using surfactant...

Ten preterm infants severely ill with hyaline-membrane disease (HMD) were given artificial surfactant endotracheally. Oxygenation and alveolar-arterial oxygen gradients improved, the levels of inspired oxygen and peak respirator pressure could be reduced, and many of the radiological abnormalities resolved. Acidosis and systemic hypotension were also reversed. In nine infants a patent ductus ar...

OBJECTIVES To analyse the indications, clinical profile, complications and outcome of the babies requiring mechanical ventilation. DESIGN Retrospective study. SETTING NICU of a teaching hospital. SUBJECTS One hundred and twenty one neonates requiring assisted ventilation during three years. RESULTS Of 121 babies 59(48.76%) survived. Hyaline membrane disease (HMD) was the commonest indic...
متن کاملBrief Reports Surfactant Therapy in Neonatal Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) is the leading cause of neonatal respiratory distress in our country and is the commonest disorder requiring assisted ventilation all over the world(l,2), Exogenous surfactant administration is now an established mode of therapy in neonatal RDS (hyaline membrane disease, HMD). Ever since the first report of successful surfactant replacement therapy in neonate...

The routine intake of surfactant as a part of HMD (Hyaline Membrane Disease) treatment had significant effect on the prognosis of premature neonates. But since in our country this drug is not widely and routinely used, and there are not records about its use, we decided to make good on this shortcoming through a retrospective study. During 1 year, 54 neonates with HMD were admitted in Ali-Asgha...
